1. Information We Collect

LaneUp collects the following types of information:

Account Information: Email address, password (encrypted), user role (teen, supervisor, school), and display name.

Drive Data: GPS route points, drive start/end times, day and night driving minutes, distance traveled, road types, and safety scores.

Family Information: Supervisor names, relationships, and license years. Teen driver names, permit dates, and state.

Device Information: Device type, operating system version, and app version for debugging purposes.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

  • Provide and improve the driving hours tracking service
  • Calculate day/night driving hours using GPS location
  • Generate DMV-ready driving log forms
  • Sync drive data across devices via cloud backup
  • Send curfew awareness notifications
  • Verify supervisor presence during drives
  • Provide post-drive reflections and safety insights

3. Location Data

LaneUp collects GPS location data during active drives to track routes, calculate distance, determine day/night driving times, and detect road types. Location tracking only occurs when you actively start a drive session. We do not track your location in the background when no drive is active.

Location data is stored locally on your device first (offline-first architecture) and may be synced to our secure cloud servers for backup. You can disable location permissions at any time through your device settings, though this will limit App functionality.

4. Data Storage and Security

All drive data is stored locally on your device using an encrypted SQLite database. Cloud backups are stored on Supabase servers with row-level security ensuring users can only access their own family's data. We use industry-standard encryption for data in transit (TLS) and at rest.

5. Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal information to third parties. We may share data with:

  • Family members: Parents/supervisors on the same family account can view teen driving data
  • Driving schools: Only if you use a school referral code, and limited to aggregate progress data
  • Service providers: We use Supabase for cloud storage and RevenueCat for purchase management
  • Legal requirements: When required by law or to protect our rights

6. Children's Privacy

LaneUp is designed to be used by teen drivers (ages 15+) with parental consent and supervision. We comply with COPPA requirements. Parents can review, modify, or delete their teen's data at any time through the parent dashboard.

7. Data Retention

We retain drive data for as long as your account is active. You can delete your account and all associated data by contacting support@laneupapp.com. Local data on your device can be removed by uninstalling the App.

8. Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access your personal data
  • Correct inaccurate data
  • Delete your account and data
  • Export your drive data (via DMV form generation)
  • Opt out of cloud sync (use offline mode only)

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes through the App. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
